Anyone who's previously been familiar with an iPhone will likely know of Olloclip. Producers of arguably the best clip on lenses for the iPhone and more recently, the iPad, Olloclip has now branched out to Android for the first time with lenses for the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Galaxy S4.
It's not hard to understand why they first started with Samsung's two biggest selling Galaxy S phones, the numbers game certainly has to be a factor. We first saw the new lenses at IFA, where they first launched, and we've had a little play around with them to see if they're worth your time.
Facebook may be working on a new stand alone mobile app that will allow its users to interact with others but without using their real names, and that app could be released in a matter of weeks.
Xperia Z3

Sony returns with its best high-end smartphone yet — in two sizes

Over the past year, Sony has shown a quiet determination to claw its way to the top of the smartphone food chain. The Japanese electronics giant may be in a sticky financial situation at present, but in 2014 it's fielded some of the most compelling high-end smartphones on the market. At CES this January it was the first big Android player to offer a true flagship smartphone in a smaller form factor with the Xperia Z1 Compact. A few months later it improved on the Z1 in a few important areas with the Xperia Z2, one of the most balanced Android flagships of the year.
Six months later, Sony's back with another fall refresh, and two new smartphones in different form factors. There's the Xperia Z3, the latest iterative update for Sony's Z series, and the Xperia Z3 Compact, which takes the guts of the Z3 and transplants them into a smaller chassis.
Given the similarities between the two, the Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact call for a different kind of review, and as such we're going to present a mega-review of sorts, covering all the usual areas, as well as the differences between the two.
Read on to find out how Sony's latest handsets shape up.
More details regarding Samsung's metal-clad smartphones in the Galaxy A series are starting to emerge, with today's report stating that the Chinese version of the Galaxy A7 will feature a 5.5-inch full-HD display. That's according to SamMobile's source, who also states that the Galaxy A5 – rumored to be the mid-ranger in the series – will launch in the month of November for around $450.

Just yesterday we heard that LG is preparing to launch the G Watch R in its native Korea, but here in the UK pre-order pricing is beginning to emerge for that and some of the other new Android Wear watches headed our way. Online retailer, Expansys, has pre-order listings for all three and is pricing the Zenwatch a fair bit cheaper than the others .

The world's largest phone-maker has issued its guidance for the third quarter of the 2014 fiscal year and warns that there may be a steep drop in profits from a year ago and from the previous quarter. With the guidance, this would be the fourth consecutive quarter that Samsung's profits are slumping. Operating profit could drop by as much as 60 percent.
Nexus

If they build it, will we buy it?

It's been a while since we have seen a Nexus tablet from the folks at Google. Plenty of rumors were floating around last year about a new 10-inch model, but they never materialized. This year, we're 99-percent sure things will be different, though.
The HTC-built Nexus 9 seems like a lock, complete with a 4:3 aspect ratio and a 64-bit NVIDIA SoC inside, and a (hopefully) very tablet-friendly version of Android L to run on it. Our question to everyone — are you interested in buying one?
After having been rumored for a launch on the 14th, Android Wear's second circular-faced watch is now confirmed for a launch mid-October. LG has issued a press release stating that the LG G Watch R will go on sale in South Korea on October 14. The G Watch R will be the second round Android Wear watch joining Motorola's Moto 360.
Google has expanded carrier support for picture messaging over Google Voice. After working with carriers for support, users on 100 different North American carriers — including AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Bell Canada, Rogers, Telus, and many more — should now be able to recieve MMS messages on their Google Voice number. There's no word on any carriers outside of North America mentioned. Also, Verizon is conspicuously absent from the list, and users report that MMS over Google Voice isn't working on Big Red.
Google has announced the dates and some of the details for the 2014 Code-In and 2015's Summer of Code challenges. The programs are designed for students to learn and participate in open source projects, polish their skills, and even have a chance to win a prize or two while having fun and contributing to the betterment of us all.
